Mia Makela (SOLU) is finnish media+live cinema artist,teacher, investigator, curator and cultural activist residing in Barcelona.

Her trajectory has led her from shamanistic studies to art. From art to media artand design. From media art to organization of events and workshops oncontemporary digital culture. As part of fiftyfifty.org collective (until 2002), sheorganized Hacker Techniques workshops, Gameboy Sound Lab and Playtimeevent amongst other activities.

She started performing visuals in 2001 as SOLU at festivals around the world:SONIC ACTS (Amsterdam), SONAR (Barcelona), TRANSMEDIALE (Berlin),ZAGREB BIENNALE OF MUSIC, CIMATICS (Brussels), AVIT (Birmingham),MAPPING (Geneve), TRANSIT_MX (Mexico City), Live Cinema Nights (SanJose), Pixelache (Helsinki), ARS ELECTRONICA (Linz), BYTEME (Perth),MONKEY TOWN (NYC), ROXY BAR & SCREEN (London), STATE OF IMAGE(Arnhem), FESTIVAL POMLADI (Ljubljana), LARM (Stockholm)…. .

She hascollaborated with many experimental musicians including ARBOL, HeidiMortenson, Dj Rupture and worked with theaters (Conservas, Dani PanulloDance theater)Her work has been described as « A dark delirium of images, a disintegratedvision on a complex world – a digital version of William Blake’s poetry ». Her styleranges from minimal abstractions to multilayered compositions following adreamlike narrative journey. She processes her visual material withMAX/MSP/JITTER, Isadora and Modul8.

She has given lectures and written articles on various themes including livecinema, VJng, robots, audiovisual and digital culture and tactical sound. In 2006she published her thesis on LIVE CINEMA language and elements, (Medialaboratory, Helsinki) which gathers her experience on real-time visuals. Thefollowing year she edited widely distributed special issue on LIVE CINEMA fora:minima magazine/ book. Her latest workshop titled ”Audiovisual Real- timeCreation” took place in Spain, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Finland and Mexico.

Miguel Marinborn in seville (spain) in november 1974 , began playing drumsand percussion at the early age of 9 when taken by his dad to a percussion and drummers band.1994-1996- marin was a member of sevilles local band « Explosivos Acme » and « SrChinarro ».

He played drums for them and recorded 2 Lps « puzzle » and « compito ».1997-2003- marin moves to London and starts playing drums for several bands but it’sin 1998 when marin is recruited by Glen Johnson front man in british post-rockers »Piano Magic » and begin playing drums for them.

Soon Marin takes the role as well as Johnson and John Cheves of writing songs forthe band and becomes a key member. Piano Magic records in 2000 the acclaimed album « Artists Rifles » and with it a several number ofeuropean shows would arrived and also recording works such as « Son de Mar » a soundtrack to the Bigas Luna film ,an Ep for spanish label Acuarela « I came to your party dressed as a shadow » and an album for 4AD « Writers without Homes ».2003-2005- In 2002 marin decides to leave Piano Magic and focus mainly on his solo project « Arbol » he had already started a while ago. A year later Arbol would see hisdebut Album « Arbol s/t » and starts playing liveshows in the UK and Europe. Arbol gets invited to play well known music festival ofBarcelona Sonar and then works music and images together with e-lestudio , a newproject by marin and leo obstbaum from e-lestudio s born « Beyond Identity » and they work on a DVD that combines 7 short videos based in Tokyo and with music by marin.2003 Biennal of Valencia,Bigas Luna directs « Las Comedias Barbaras » a modern Opera-Theatre that includes performances and live music written by marin and withthe help of John Cheves.The project involves more than 100 people among actors,musicians and dancers.

Then in 2004 marin begin working closer with images and writes the score for 41degrees, a short film by Santiago Garrido few months later Bigas Luna,Chu Uroz,Jean Nouvel and Miguel Marin would present a Video Installation of 3 screens called « Ganur Nouvel » with marin s playing live music.2005 « Dreams made of Paper » a new album by Arbol is released and is recognized bythe press as « a sublime album » TFF Siglo21 Radio 3.July same year Marin and Basque artist Iker Garcia meet in London and work in aproject called « InsideOut » combining painting works by Garcia and music by Marin.InsideOut gets exhibited at U-tupi in Barcelona and 90grados in San Sebastien during2005/06.Months later Marin and Santiago Garrido get together to work in a videoart piece forAudiovisiva festival based on the jeans maker GAS.
